We did it... The Arts in Medicine Program is open
To beat cancer, not only do children need life saving treatments but they also need hope. Art creates hope. Children being treated had very little to do while they wait for treatment and with our Arts in Medicine that changed. We created an art center so that they can draw and paint and create little pieces of "healing magic" while they are at the hospital. Not only is this a great distraction but it changes how they perceive their hospital visits. This will be a place to look forward to and going to the hospital will no longer be associated only with long hours of waiting and pain but a place where they have fun. One parent wrote this "Thank you Friend of CONANCA because my little boy Luis Carlos Maldonado was happy time in the reading and especially in the painting room, thank you and god bless you." We are happy to have given Luis a place where he can express himself through creativity and love seeing all those little hands getting messy and creating art.
The hospital designated the space below (formerly an open room to a patio) for us to convert into the art center. Look at the pictures below to see what the space used to look like and what it looks like now - a vibrant space full of life and color. Thank you to PGP Arquitectos for donating their time and talent to create our floor plans and design.
A special thank you for our donor who gave $6,000 to create the space and to another donor who has donated the salary for our art teacher for the first year. The teacher's salary is $500 a month, if you would like to help us secure her salary for longer please make a note in the donation form and we will allocate money towards the salary. Thank you for your support and for making art possible.

Other accomplishments in 2015
Because of your continued support in 2015 we were able to:
* Provide over $65,000 for medical expenses, which is 45% of the pediatric oncology's total budget for pharmaceuticals. This includes life-saving medicines such as chemo-therapies, radiation and lab work.
* Provide a grant to cover the cost of one pediatric oncologist. One more doctor allows for more specialized care giving children and their families a greater chance towards winning in the fight against cancer.
In 2015 there was an 11% increase in cases diagnosed from the previous year and because of our help with funding additional medicine and another oncologist, those new patients were able to receive free medical care.
